System Lords Preview
Sorry I haven't posted much news lately, the site is getting pretty iffy on me and I'm going to have to attempt to sort it out again soon. So, to make up for it, here are three chunks of news in one:

"Arriving on your world August 16, Systems Lords contains loads of evil new Goa'uld and their Jaffa henchmen. Not only will this give your opponent's team fresh challenges to overcome, they'll feature a new keyword -- Dominion -- that helps you achieve victory as the villain player!

System Lords also includes a number of exciting new characters, with surprising and different versions of your favorites from Stargate SG-1. It also adds to the game enough options to build teams made only of stoic Russians, elusive Tok'ra field agents, or shadowy NID operatives.

This 292-card expansion includes four starter decks featuring the villains Apophis, Baal, Osiris, and Yu. And a new subset of six ultra-rare foil cards are included in each display box of boosters."

That's not all. They've also posted up information on each of the cards - Daniel & Anubis - an image of the System Lords booster.

Origins O'Neill Promo
An article recently appeared on the official print website about a new promo that will make the rounds at the upcoming Origin event, Jack, Dynamic Leader:

"The Origins convention in Columbus, OH (July 5 – 8) is the first major stop on the Comic Images and SOE Stargate TCG summer tour this year! There will be several Stargate TCG tournaments for players of all levels to compete and have fun in. Be sure to stop by the booth and chat with the Comic Images and SOE staff, learn how to play Stargate TCG, and pick up your Stargate Online TCG summer convention physical promo card Jack O’Neill, Dynamic Leader!"

The effects for the card are pretty damn good. Should be an interesting card to play with. Hopefully the card will also appear at GenConUK. You can view out the Origin schedules here.

System Lords Release Promo
Comic Images has started distributing a release promo for their upcoming set, System Lords:

If the SG-1 release promo is anything to go by, we're looking at the Ultra Rare version of Ra who will have 2 Culture, 2 Ingenuity, a cost of 4 and a revive cost of 3. The text stats:

"System Lords, the next expansion of the Stargate TCG, is dialling your location! Over 200 new cards featuring great moments from Stargate SG-1. Enhance you're favorite decks and explore new teams, missions and adversaries. Available this summer at your local retailers and for online play."

The card puts the release date as July 2007, but I can confirm that System Lords will not be ready for printing until August. You can grab your own copy of this promo from your local retailers. Thanks to ColSi for the news and the scan.

TCG Timejumper
A recent article on StargateTCG.org set me off on a very short quest to find out about those images they'd posted up. What I found was this:

" On September 8th Genio announces: Genio Signs License Agreement to Produce Trading-Card Games Based on Popular Television Series 'Stargate SG-1' and 'Stargate: Atlantis'; Genio Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis Card Series Set for April 2005 Launch.

CritterCreek has been independently developing an Online Exclusive Stargate TCG. CritterCreek is not associated with Genio. The gameplay and card images shown here were developed independently and before Genio's announcment."

You can see bigger pictures of Thor - Protector of Earth and Apophis - Lord of the Dead on CritterCreek's very small Stargate page.

The Chicken or the Egg?
Which came first? It's a valid question. Also an unanswerable one - at least for the moment. But when it comes to card creation, it's quite an easy question to answer. The official sites have just released an article called The Chicken or the Egg. In it they talk about the creation of cards:

"The debut set of Stargate TCG drew on images, characters, and plots from all throughout the 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1, and over two-thirds of the episodes were represented on at least one card. I'm sometimes asked: are cards inspired by watching the show, or are things from the show found to fit the cards after they're written? The answer is, we do plenty of both."

In the article they talk about the creation of Joe Spencer and Martin Lloyd. It's a very interesting article that you really must check out.

System Lord's Preview
I recently stumbled across the site StargateTCG.org(link now in Links section), a site very similar to our own. They had reviews of the promo's in the Gatekeeper set, claiming they were from the System Lord's expansion:

I'm attempting to get this confirmed by SOE but from comments on the Online forum, I'm guessing this is the case. Also in the upcoming set is Young Jack. Discuss the new expansion in our forums.

UR Jack "Fixed"
After recent incidents in the SG TCG Online tournaments, we've seen an outrage in the frequent use of the overpowered Ultra-Rare Jack O'Neill. Answering the calls of the fans, SOE has re-written the text on the UR Jack card:

"The designers have been locked away with nothing but Red Bull and Oreos working hard on a solution that would scale back the efficiency of UR Jack – but still maintain his viability and status as an ultra-rare. This is a difficult balance to achieve, but after many different iterations, the following will officially be the game new text for Jack O’Neill, Team Leader starting today (5/29/07):

“Each time Jack O'Neill earns a glyph he already has, you may look at the top two cards of your mission pile, then place them in any order on the top and/or bottom of that pile.”

This change applies to both the Online and Print version of the game, although UR Jack will not be reprinted. You can discuss the topic in our forums.

Budget Gaming
I know I'm a little late posting it on the main site, but this has been up on our forums for the past few days. For any gamer, budgeting is an issue and Chokehold has written up his method of budgeting his Stargate TCG goodness:

"Everyone knows that CCG's can cost you a lot of money. Why? Because there will always be that one card you really want for your deck, and always just that one is hard to get, and thus very expensive. And to top that, every 3 months or so, a whole new set will come out that will cringe your wallet even more. "

It is a must read and will help any gamer who is concerned about how much money they're spending on the game. Make sure you read Budget Gaming through the Stargate.

Stargate At GenCon Indy
It looks like the SG1 TCG will be making it's way to GenCon Indy this August. GenCon is a big Gaming event that takes place annually with various tournaments, and you've got a chance to compete with SG1:

"Comic Images Zev Shlasinger TCG00220 Stargate SG-1 TCG Constructed Deck Tournament Bring your own Stargate SG-1 TCG deck , then participate in this multi-round tournament. Stargate SG-1 is the new TCG from Comic Images. Prizes from Sony Online Entertainment and Comic Images. TCG - Tradable Card Game 4 2007-08-16 14:00:00"

Click here for more information. No news on GenCon UK unfortunately. I'd like to thank manufan for the headsup and the schedule info. You can visit the GenCon Indy website here.

System Lords Expansion
It's barely been a few weeks and news of the first expansion for SG-1 is already out! Entitled System Lords, the new expansion will focus on the villian component of the game:

"Comic Images announced the first expansion for its Stargate CCG, System Lords, due out in August. Similar to the first series (see "';Stargate CCG' in Two Formats") but featuring bad guys, the 200-card expansion has four starter decks based on Stargate villains Apophis, Baal, Osiris and Yu, and includes new team characters and a new "dominion" game feature that helps players while in "villain" mode. The expansion also includes six all-foil ultra rare cards."

This news was posted on the SG-1 Print Forum but has yet to be comfirmed by official sources. Stay tuned for confirmation. You can source post here.

The Stargate Theory
Fellow fansite Stargate Trade Database has just posted a new article up, "A Road Map For Future Playtesting":

"To some this idea of theory no doubt seems silly. This is a fun game where even an out of the box deck can compete on some level, what does it need theory for? Name a successful TCG. I will be willing to bet that the game has a high level group of players that is extremely competitive. Games need these players. It adds to the lore of the game and gives others something to strive towards. Games need deckbuilding articles, deck archetypes that go beyond ?These four characters, this win condition, and/or this main component,? and people to understand the game on a level beyond the topical so they can teach these skills to incoming players. The game is just starting, so the lack of these types of players/writers is understandable, but it cannot become the norm."

The article talks about the future of the TCG, how to make it last and to expand. It's a really interesting article, and worth a read. Food For Thought: A Road Map For Future Playtesting.

Gatekeeper Volunteer Program
The Official Print website has posted up details about something called the Gatekeeper Volunteer Program:

"Comic Images is proud to announce the formation of the Gatekeeper volunteer program for Stargate TCG. Gatekeepers are motivated players and tournament directors of the Stargate TCG who work closely with Comic Images to promote the game in their local community through tournaments, demonstrations, and coordination. They are the liaison between local retailers and Comic Images, making sure a healthy and active community for Stargate TCG is being maintained in the best possible manner."

It sounds pretty damn interesting actually. I expect Chris, my co-owner, will be volunteering for this program. So keep an eye out. Read the full article here.
